Mini Palm Oil Mill Setup: Machines, Floor Space and Utilities

FAQ / Chat on line / Give me a price / Date: October 29, 2026

Setting up a mini palm oil mill requires more than choosing an oil press. You also need to match the equipment to your available palm fruit supply, plan space for receiving and processing raw materials, and confirm the site's power, water, fuel, and waste-handling arrangements.

For a small-scale operation, Glory Oiltech (Henan Glory) offers a 500 kg/h palm oil processing configuration consisting of a palm fruit thresher, a 500 kg/h single-screw palm oil press, and a plate-and-frame filter press. A vibrating screen can also be added if needed. This setup is intended for small mills that want to extract and filter crude palm oil without investing in a complete industrial processing line.

1. What Machines Does a Mini Palm Oil Mill Need?

A simplified 500 kg/h palm oil processing setup can use three main machines: a thresher, a single-screw palm oil press, and a plate-and-frame filter press. Each handles a different stage of the process.

Palm Fruit Thresher

Palm fruit bunch thresherPalm fruit bunch thresher

The thresher separates palm fruits from harvested fresh fruit bunches (FFB). Its processing capacity needs to match the supply of bunches and the downstream press, so fruit does not accumulate unnecessarily between stages.

500 kg/h Single-Screw Palm Oil Press

Single screw palm oil press machineSingle screw palm oil press machine

The single-screw palm oil press extracts oil from threshed palm fruit, not directly from whole fresh fruit bunches. This distinction matters when estimating raw-material requirements and expected oil output.

Screw material2Cr13 alloy
Equipment priceUS$950–1,250

The electric and diesel versions provide different drive options. The suitable choice depends on the site's electricity supply, fuel availability, operating costs, and maintenance arrangements.

Plate-and-Frame Filter Press

Plate and frame filter pressPlate and frame filter press

After pressing, crude palm oil contains suspended solids that need to be removed. A plate-and-frame filter press helps separate these particles from the oil before collection or further processing.

ItemSpecification
Filtration area8 m²
Motor power2.2 kW
Reference weight800 kg
Dimensions2,630 × 800 × 900 mm
Equipment priceUS$1,500–3,500

The final filter-press configuration and price depend on the selected model and configuration. A vibrating screen can also be considered if additional screening is needed before filtration. Whether it is necessary depends on the raw material, the pressing arrangement, and the required crude-oil quality.

2. How Much Palm Fruit Do You Need, and How Much Oil Can You Produce?

A 500 kg/h palm oil press requires approximately 500 kg of threshed palm fruit per hour at its rated processing capacity. The corresponding fresh fruit bunch (FFB) requirement is higher because the bunches also contain empty fruit bunches and other non-fruit material.

Using a reference assumption that palm fruit accounts for about 65% of FFB weight:

  • Palm fruit required: 500 kg/h

  • Estimated FFB input: 500 ÷ 65% ≈ 769 kg/h, or about 0.77 t/h

  • Illustrative crude palm oil output: approximately 140–185 kg/h, using an estimated crude-oil yield of 18–24% of FFB weight

These figures are planning estimates, not guaranteed production results. Actual output depends on the fruit variety, maturity, condition, oil content, processing conditions, and operating performance. The daily quantity of fruit and oil will depend on how long the mill operates and how much suitable raw material is available. You can set the operating schedule around your fruit supply, labor arrangements, and business needs.

3. How Much Floor Space Does a Mini Palm Oil Mill Need?

The combined equipment dimensions provide a starting point for layout planning, but the machine footprint is not the same as the floor area required for a working palm oil mill. The site also needs room for materials, operators, product collection, and routine maintenance.

Before preparing a building or choosing a site, consider the following:

  • Raw-material receiving: Provide space to unload fresh fruit bunches and temporarily hold incoming materials.

  • Threshing and pressing: Arrange the thresher and press in a practical sequence to reduce unnecessary movement of fruit.

  • Oil filtration and collection: Leave room for the filter press, crude-oil containers or tanks, and safe handling during filtration.

  • Waste and by-product storage: Plan designated areas for empty fruit bunches, press fiber, and other residues generated by the process.

  • Operator access and maintenance: Keep working routes clear and allow access to machine components that require cleaning, adjustment, or servicing.

  • Future expansion: If you expect to increase capacity later, consider the space needed for additional equipment and material movement before fixing the layout.

Site preparation also involves checking the ground condition, drainage, vehicle access, and the route for electrical wiring or other utility connections. The actual building requirement should be determined from a site-specific layout, not estimated from machine dimensions alone.

Glory Oiltech can help assess your proposed site and develop an equipment layout based on the available space, raw-material handling needs, and intended processing capacity.

4. What Utilities Should You Prepare Before Installation?

The required utilities depend on the selected equipment configuration and the way the mill will be operated. Rather than applying consumption figures from a different production line, confirm the following items for your own project.

Power Supply

For the electric-drive configuration described above, the listed motor ratings total 10.2 kW: 4 kW for the thresher, 4 kW for the press, and 2.2 kW for the filter press. This is the sum of the listed motor ratings, not a measured energy-consumption figure or a complete electrical design.

A qualified electrician should confirm the site's supply capacity, voltage, phase, starting requirements, protection devices, and wiring before installation.

If you choose the 8 HP diesel-driven press, its engine power should not be added to the electrical load as though it were an electric motor. The electrical requirements of the remaining equipment still need to be checked separately.

Water and Heating Arrangements

Confirm the water source and the intended heating or preparation method before selecting auxiliary equipment. Requirements may vary with the raw material, the operating procedure, and the specific configuration.

Fuel and Waste Handling

If a diesel-driven press is selected, assess the availability, storage, and handling of diesel fuel. Also plan how to collect and manage empty fruit bunches, fiber, press residues, and wastewater generated by the operation.

These details affect site preparation and operating arrangements, so they should be discussed before equipment installation.

Maintenance and Local Support

Routine cleaning, wear-part replacement, and access to technical support should also be considered when choosing equipment. For projects in Africa, we have a regional branch, established in Nigeria in 2019, with a warehouse in Ogun State supporting spare-parts supply and technical assistance.

5. How Much Do the Main Machines Cost?

The following are indicative equipment-body price ranges for the simplified configuration. They are individual machine prices, not a quotation for a complete installed mill.

EquipmentIndicative price
Palm fruit thresherUS$2,500–3,000
500 kg/h single-screw palm oil pressUS$950–1,250
Plate-and-frame filter pressUS$1,500–3,500

The prices above exclude freight, installation and commissioning, civil works or foundations, optional vibrating-screen equipment, oil tanks, and other project-specific items. The final quotation depends on the selected configuration and delivery requirements.

For this reason, it is more useful to confirm the required equipment and site conditions before estimating the overall project investment. A machine-only price does not represent the total cost of preparing a functioning mill.

6. Is a 500 kg/h Mini Palm Oil Mill Right for Your Project?

A 500 kg/h palm-fruit press configuration is worth considering when your operation needs a relatively simple extraction setup and your fruit supply matches the processing capacity. Before selecting it, check three things:

  1. Raw-material supply: Can you provide enough threshed palm fruit to keep the press productively supplied?

  2. Processing requirements: Do you need crude-oil extraction and filtration only, or do you also need sterilizing, digestion, drying, or refining equipment?

  3. Site readiness: Can the site accommodate material receiving, the equipment sequence, oil collection, waste handling, and the required utilities?

If your raw-material supply or target capacity is larger, a higher-capacity palm oil processing line may be more suitable. A 1 TPH integrated palm oil processing line is another configuration to consider when your project requires a more integrated setup. Its equipment arrangement and site requirements are different from those of the simplified three-machine configuration described here.

Glory Oiltech can help you compare suitable configurations based on your raw-material supply, target capacity, and available facilities, rather than selecting equipment on capacity alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

Can this mini palm oil mill produce refined edible oil directly?

A

No. The three-machine configuration described here is designed for palm-fruit threshing, oil extraction, and crude-oil filtration. It does not include the equipment needed to refine crude palm oil. If your business requires refined edible oil, the refining process and its equipment must be planned separately.

Q

Can the 500 kg/h single-screw press process palm kernels or other oilseeds?

A

The press discussed in this article is intended for palm-fruit processing. Do not assume that it can process palm kernels or other oilseeds simply because they also contain oil. Different raw materials may require different press designs and processing conditions. Confirm the intended raw material with the equipment supplier before choosing a machine.

Q

Can I build the mill in an existing building?

A

Possibly, but the building should be assessed before the equipment is installed. The review should cover floor condition, equipment placement, operator access, raw-material and product movement, drainage, utility connections, and waste storage. A site layout based on the actual equipment is more reliable than judging suitability from the building's total area alone.

Q

What information should I provide to get a suitable equipment configuration?

A

Start with your expected fresh fruit bunch supply or target palm-fruit processing capacity, the raw material's condition, the preferred electric or diesel drive, your available site, and whether you need crude oil only or further processing. These details help Glory Oiltech recommend a suitable configuration and identify site requirements before quotation.
